Here's a contribution from Nat of Tooting South London 'Yes - Waterloo bridge. Because you get to look west and you see Whitehall and Westminster, Big Ben, the "old" side of London... and you look east and see the City, Blackfriars... the "new" side (OK, you can also see St Pauls and the spires of the High Court, which are pretty old, but there's enough of a contrast to be striking). I used to walk over it on my way into college every day... er, every day that I did actually go to college... and it was always so good to see a broad expanse of sky instead of a narrow corridor at the top of the street. I've got some photos I took from the bridge, I'll see if I can find them if you like.' We're waiting Nat, send them in!Jed from St Margrets now of Nottingham writes: 'My fave is Richmond Lock bridge, opened in 1894 by the then Duke of York, the lime green girders and ornate design makes it a pleasure to look at and wander over toward Old Deer Park and Richmond town centre. During the 100th anniversary celebrations the present Duke of York came to recreate the celebrations of the original unveiling by cutting a ribbon from his boat beneath the arches. For some reason he was accompanied by Rodney Bewes. The crowds cheered though.' |
